SCHERVIER PAVILION RESIDENTS ENJOY CELEBRATING HOLIDAYS and NATIONAL EVENTS
WARWICK – (January 21) The residents of Schervier Pavilion, a skilled nursing facility on the Warwick Campus of the Bon Secours Charity Health System, never lack for fun activities, especially around holidays. And major holiday and other events have already been scheduled for the entire year.
This winter and spring, for example, residents, families and staff will have an opportunity to gather together and celebrate Mardi Gras, Valentines Day and St. Patrick’s Day along with both Mother’s and Father’s Day. And every day will feature some form of entertainment during National Nursing Home Week.
In addition, the recreation staff at Schervier Pavilion publishes a monthly calendar that is filled with interesting and entertaining things for residents to do. And these events are held throughout the day as well as on some evenings.
Celebrating annual and ethnic events offers an opportunity for residents to get together, recall their own roots, enjoy a festive occasion and talk about it later while looking forward to the next celebration. It also provides an opportunity for the residents to share a holiday tradition with their families.
“Therapeutic recreation,” said Kari Call, a certified therapy recreation specialist (CTRS) who serves as Director of Recreation at Schervier Pavilion “is essential to the quality of life and the quality of care of individuals receiving health and human services. The purpose of recreational therapy is to restore, treat or rehabilitate in order to improve functioning and independence as well as reduce or eliminate the effects of illness or disability."
All programs at Schervier Pavilion are designed to meet the psychosocial and physical needs of the residents with activities that are not only enjoyable but are also intended to achieve this goal.
Schervier Pavilion is a 120-bed skilled nursing facility licensed by the New York State Department of Health. Dedicated to the highest standard of health care excellence, its full range of services, such as its therapeutic recreational program, are designed to respond to each individual’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
In addition to quality long term care services, Schervier Pavilion also offers a wide range of short-term (sub-acute) care needs. Its sub-acute services include IV therapy, rehabilitation therapy and wound care. These services afford residents the ability to recuperate for a short time in the sub-acute unit of the facility and then return home where they can resume a more independent life. In some cases, they can then enter Schervier Pavilion’s Day-At-A-Time, an innovative medical adult day care program that provides nursing services, medication administration, ongoing evaluations and stimulating activities tailored to individual’s needs and abilities.
