The story behind the lower Hudson Valley's most comprehensive cardiovascular program
Not long ago, here at home, there was a strange disparity when it came to heart disease. Although there were fewer cases of cardiac disease in the lower Hudson Valley, up to 23 percent more of us were dying from it. Why? From the New Jersey border to Albany—a distance of 130 miles—there was no place to go for comprehensive cardiac care. So Good Samaritan Hospital set to work to establish a cardiovascular program unlike any other in the lower Hudson Valley… one that would rival the best in cardiac care, anywhere.
The first step was to offer emergency angioplasty—a highly advanced procedure that opens clogged arteries in heart attack victims. It was a first major effort in changing our area’s sobering statistics on heart disease. It has and continues to save hundreds of lives.
And now, we’ve opened the Active International Cardiovascular Institute—the first and only cardiovascular program in the lower Hudson Valley to offer a complete cardiovascular program, provided by a highly experienced cardiac team.
Now, people in our region have a place to turn in their battle against heart disease. This is the one.
